Kindergarten News

School Hours:  During the school year the playground opens at 8:45 a.m., and school starts at 9 a.m.  Students who arrive after 9 a.m., are tardy and need to be walked to the office for a tardy slip before being admitted to class.  School ends at 2 p.m.  Please park on the street and walk to the gate to meet your child.  Children will be dismissed one at a time, to authorized persons only!  These names must be on your child’s green emergency card.

Absences:  Consistent attendance is very important!  Please be sure your child is at school every day unless he/she is sick.  When your child is absent, please send in an absent note when he/she returns.  If your child has a fever, he/she must be fever free for 24 hours before returning.

If your child must be gone for 3 or more days, please notify the school at least two days in advance.

Early Pick-up:   Please try and schedule all doctor and dentist appointments before or after school.  If you need to pick your child up early, you must go to the office to sign him/her out before coming to the classroom.

Labels:  Please label your child’s clothing, lunch pails, and backpacks.  Please check the lost and found by room 31 for misplaced items.

Lunches:  Please send a nutritious lunch to school with your child each day.  No candy, gum, or sodas please!!  Also, glass bottles and aluminum cans are not permitted.  The first week only, we will be eating lunch together in the classroom.  After the first week, the children will be having lunch in the cafeteria.  Kindergarten students will not be able to buy lunch until the first week of October.

Snacks:   Please pack a nutritious snack and drink for your child to eat each morning.

Backpacks:  Backpacks are strongly recommended.  Please be sure your child’s backpack is large enough to accommodate a standard sized folder.

Emergency Cards:  Please return your two green emergency cards as soon as possible.  Should your child become ill or injured, we will be able to contact you.  Also it is vital that your emergency card is kept current by notifying the office of any changes of address, phone number, and/or emergency contacts during the year.

Volunteers:  Volunteers are welcome in our classroom and are encouraged to participate.  Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering.  All Hickory volunteers must have a current TB test on file in the office before being allowed to work in the classroom.  Please see the office for more information.

Birthdays:  You are welcome to send a special nutritious treat or book for the class on your child’s birthday.  In addition, we will have a special birthday circle on his or her special day.  I will send a note home a week before.  Summer birthdays will be celebrated in June.

Home/School Communication:

I will be giving your child a folder which he/she should bring to school every day.  All homework, class work, and correspondence will be placed in your child’s folder, so please be sure to check it each day.  Also, please put any notes for me in the folder.  My aide or I  will be checking it daily.  I will send a homework packet home each Monday (or first day of the week).  Monthly themes, special events, and important information will be sent home during the first week of each month.  Please be sure to read our school wide Communicator which will be coming home with your child on Thursdays.  Return the empty folder on Friday.

Do not put any notes inside the Communicator envelope as I will not be checking it.
