Welcome to Kindergarten! Welcome to Kindergarten
at Hickory Elementary School. This year is going to be a new and exciting one
for you and your child. Let’s work together to make it a happy one. School Hours / Arrival and
Dismissal The hours for the first
week are 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. During the first week you will drop off and
pick up your child in room 4. Beginning the second week the hours are from
9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The
kindergarten playground will also open on the second week of September at
8:45 a.m. for drop off. Please say goodbye at the gate. Children are to
remain under your supervision at all times prior to the playground opening.
Upon dismissal, children will be released only to those specified on the
green emergency contact cards. Advanced written permission must be granted if
anyone other than those listed is to pick up a child. Their safety is my main
concern. If you are more than ten minutes late, your child will be walked to
the office and will be waiting for you there. Please let me know if your
child will be attending after school care. Absences Consistent attendance is
very important. Please be sure your child is at school every day unless he or
she is sick. If your child is absent, complete and send in an absence note
when he or she returns to school. If your child will be gone for three or
more days, please try to notify the school in advance. Lunches Your child will need to
bring a lunch from home during the month of September. Please pack healthy
foods and avoid soda, candy or other sugary items. For the first week we will
be eating lunch in the classroom. After the first week the children will be
eating their lunch in the cafeteria. Students will be able to purchase a
lunch in the cafeteria in October (date TBA). More information will be
provided for you at a later time. Homework A homework packet will
be sent home on the first school day of each week beginning Monday. This
packet is due back on the last school day of each week. Please return all
homework in the folder provided. Students should complete one homework
assignment and listen to a story each night. Please send your child to school
with a bag or backpack large enough to fit his/her homework folder. Backpacks
help young students become responsible for their school materials. Emergency
Cards Please return your
green emergency cards as soon as possible. I cannot stress the importance of this enough. Throughout the course
of the year please be sure you keep your emergency card current by notifying
the office of any changes of address, phone number or emergency contacts. Labels Please label everything your child brings to school! Articles
found without labels will be kept briefly in the room, and if not claimed
they will be taken to room 31, which is the school wide lost and found.
Eventually those items will be donated to charity. I am looking
forward to having a wonderful year with you and your child! |
