REMINDER

This website is usually updated every month with information about study trips, projects, reports, etc. that are taking place in our grade level and in our room.  If you need to contact me by e-mail, my e-mail address is fbenedetti@teacher.tusd.org.

REPORT CARDS

As you have heard, Hickory Elementary will be using a Standards Based Report Card (SBRC) for this year’s grading system. For more information about this report card, a meeting will be held in our cafetorium on Thursday, October 9th at 6:00 p.m. I would encourage all parents to be at this very important meeting.

ROOM REPRESENTATIVE(S)…

Room 14 is in dire need of a room rep (or co-reps) to take care of all of our social affairs. Without a rep, a lot of fun-filled activities won’t happen. Help is always greatly appreciated in Room 14!!! Please contact me should you want to help out.

AND MORE VOLUNTEERS!

Our library days are on Mondays at 2:45. Though we don’t physically go to the library as a whole class, we do use the library to check out books for reports. The copy center is another place in need of volunteers. If you would like to help out in the center, I usually copy my work for the next week on Thursdays. Having a copy person helping out on this day is very much appreciated!!!

SUPPLIES

Thank you to the parents who have sent in supplies to our classroom. Tissues and pencils and other supplies are always needed!

PLC

As a reminder, Wednesdays are PLC days.  Dismissal is at 2:28!

P.E.

Our P.E. days are on Mondays and Fridays. Students should remember to where tennis shoes on these days. Our goal is to build up our endurance for the fifth grade physical fitness test in February.

CLASSWORK PAPERS

Periodically, we pass back corrected papers that were recently graded and recorded. Please review with your child the papers that do come home, especially the test papers. Some children have a habit of throwing those kinds of papers away. Planners should also be signed every Thursday (or every evening if you choose to do so). This gives you a chance to review and reflect on what your child did for homework for the week and if there are any upcoming projects due.

STUDY TRIP

Our first study trip is set for Tuesday, October 21st to the Skirball Cultural Center in West Los Angeles. This trip culminates our “Immigrants to the U.S.” unit in social studies. We are in need of one more volunteer to chaperone us on this trip. If you would like to volunteer, please let me know.

Thank you for all of your support!  I’m looking forward to a great year!!!

Homework Corner

Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday nights. Students are required to write all their assignments in their planners daily. Parents should check planners on a regular basis in order to know what is going on in the classroom and sign the planner every Thursday. Planners are checked every Friday for credit. Often homework is comprised of unfinished class work that needs to be completed at home or an extension of a lesson taught at school. Homework should take no longer than one hour to be completed not including studying of tests or working on projects. Every day students are encouraged to read at least 15 to 20 minutes daily. Read Across America reading logs are to be turned in at the end of the week so that credit is given to those who do read every night.  Please make sure test papers in need of a signature are signed and returned to school as soon as possible.
