REMINDER

This website is usually updated every month with information about study trips, projects, reports, etc. that are taking place in our grade level and in our room.  If you need to contact me by e-mail, my e-mail address is fbenedetti@etusd.org.

Happy New Year!!!

Hoping everyone had a rested and happy vacation.  It’s hard to believe that we’re now coasting to the middle of the second trimester.  There are many things in ’10 that our fourth graders can look forward to.  June is right around the corner.

ROOM REPRESENTATIVE(S)…

A special thank you to all the parents that helped out at our holiday party right before break especially to Mrs. Whitman and Mrs. Tynen who organized the event.  The children had a lot of fun!

SCIENCE FAIR

Our school science fair is taking place in March!  Entry forms were made available right before winter break.  Room 14 is required to do a science project. Students can do one on their own or partner up with someone of their own grade level (3 is the limit). Some ideas are available on the Hickory website.  Good luck and have fun!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Physical education is a mandatory subject which, in our classroom, takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  It is important that every child participates in order to receive a grade.  If your child is physically unable to participate, for example, has an injured leg or arm or has asthma that is acting up, please write a note which will formally excuse him or her from playing.  Also, students should remember to where tennis shoes on these days. Our goal is to build up our endurance for healthier bodies.

SUPPLIES

Thank you to the parents who have sent in supplies to our classroom. Tissues and pencils and other supplies are always needed!

PLC

As a reminder, Wednesdays are PLC days.  Dismissal is at 2:27!

CLASSWORK PAPERS

Periodically, we pass back corrected papers that were recently graded and recorded. Please review with your child the papers that do come home, especially the test papers which need to be signed and brought back to school. Some children have a habit of throwing those kinds of papers away. Planners should also be signed every Thursday (or every evening if you choose to do so) along with the new “behavior” card. This gives you a chance to review and reflect on what your child did for homework for the week and if there are any upcoming projects due.

CONFERENCES

It isn’t too late to conference if you missed the week of conferences. Please e-mail me if you wish to conference and we can then set up a time.

Thank you for all of your support!

Homework Corner

Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday nights. Students are required to write all their assignments in their planners daily. Parents should check planners on a regular basis in order to know what is going on in the classroom and sign the planner every Thursday. Planners are checked every Friday for credit. Often homework is comprised of unfinished class work that needs to be completed at home or an extension of a lesson taught at school. Homework should take no longer than one hour to be completed not including studying of tests or working on projects. Every day students are encouraged to read at least 15 to 20 minutes daily. Reading minutes can be logged in the planner in the space provided and will be checked at the end of the week so that credit is given to those who do read every night.  Please make sure test papers in need of a signature are signed and returned to school as soon as possible.
