The PTA conducts fundraising events throughout the school year to help support the various programs which positively impact your children’s learning experience including our Enrichment, Support and School Communications programs. Your donations are very important to help fund and continue these valuable programs. Without your support, programs including the school library, science kits, assemblies and field trips for your children would not be possible. The PTA strives to create fundraising activities that are healthy and positive experiences for the children and their families.
Book Fair
Each year, Hickory students are encouraged to enjoy the pleasures of reading by purchasing books
at our annual Book Fair. The Book Fair exposes the children to a wide selection of books that
capture their interests. This year’s event will kick off on Friday December 4th
with a family reading night and conclude on Friday December 11th.
This event is staffed completely by dedicated volunteers.

Fall Fundraiser/Direct Donation Campaign
The Fall Fundraiser/Direct Donation Campaign kicks off at the beginning of the school year and is one of the major fundraisers for the PTA. It generates funds to support the PTA sponsored programs throughout the school year. The funds raised support programs such as Adventures in Art, field trips, the library, science kits and assemblies. Donation forms are sent home during the summer and weekly thru the Communicator during the campaign.

Jog-A-Thon
The Jog-a-thon is an annual fundraiser in the Spring and addresses our dedication to fitness. Our student’s sign-up sponsors who pledge either a flat donation amount or money for each lap they are able to run. We encourage students to stay fit by practicing for this annual event. Parent volunteers are needed the day of the event to punch lap cards, distribute water or by just cheer for the children from the sidelines.

Membership
Our Membership Drive begins with a campaign week in September, with memberships being accepted throughout the year. As a member of PTA, you are a part of the largest and most powerful volunteer association in America, working for the education, health, and safety of all children. Portions of your $5.00 dues are sent to each level of PTA: Torrance Council of PTA’s, 33rd District, California State PTA, and the National PTA.

Spirit Wear
Hickory PTA sells spirit wear that includes T-shirts, and sweatshirts. Students and parents are encouraged to wear their shirts on Mondays and Fridays (Hickory Hound Day) to show school spirit. The shirts are also helpful for the children to wear on field trips or for school activities as they help identify our Hounds. Watch for flyers with further information on spirit wear availability.

ON-GOING FUNDRAISERS

Simply cut-off and save the Box Tops for Education coupons from General Mills products and turn them in to the Box Tops Collection can in the office. Hickory PTA earns $0.10 for every box top. Please ask your friends and family to save the box tops as well. They can be found on a lot of different products, so keep an eye out for them. It’s easy!

Organic Fundraiser
Each week, Tanaka Farms of Irvine delivers a box of organic produce to Hickory for our subscribers to pick up and enjoy.
WHAT YOU GET:
- A fresh, handpicked box of organic fruits and vegetables each week. You simply pick it up at Hickory every FRIDAY after school.
- Healthy eating for your family each week—produce is often harvested the morning of delivery.
- Organically grown produce with no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.
- The chance to teach your children about and to sample a variety of fruits and vegetables grown in different seasons.
WHAT HICKORY GETS:
- The opportunity to offer more PTA programs and events for our kids with the money we raise--$5.00 per basket per week while promoting healthy eating for our children.
Cost is $25 per basket per week. You must order and pay for 8 weeks in advance ($200.00). Check the Communicator for the application form and delivery dates.

Scrip
Scrip (gift certificates) is sold to the PTA at a discounted rate. Parents then purchase the Scrip from the Hickory PTA at full face value, and we earn the difference as a profit. You can spend Scrip the same as cash. Scrip is sold in Room 31 on Mondays and Fridays from 8:45 am to 9:30 am,
or you can place an order and have it delivered via your child’s backpack. This is an easy way to help the school by purchasing Scrip for your everyday shopping such as grocery, gas, or gifts.

eScrip
By registering your grocery loyalty card and other major credit/ATM cards, the PTA will receive a percentage of what you spend with certain merchants i.e.: Ralphs Grocery, Macys, and Vons.
While Hickory appreciates the participation of the many merchants in the Scrip program, it does not specifically endorse any of the merchants associated with Scrip or eScrip. Profits from the sale of Scrip and eScrip are divided between the classroom teachers and the PTA.
