Science Fair March 19

Hickory Science Fair

The Hickory Science Fair will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2010 in the cafeteria from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

The purpose of the Science Fair is to encourage 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students (Kindergarten is also welcomed) to develop a greater interest in science and technology, and to develop skills in critical thinking, research, problem solving, and use of the scientific method.

While teachers will be available to advise students, the initiative and responsibility belongs to the students.

  • Parents may assist their children with their projects.
  • Parent participation should be limited to that which assists the child’s mastery of the concepts of his/her project and should encourage their child to work on their project as much as they can on their own.
  • Each student must be able to demonstrate and explain what he/she has done.

In order to participate, a science fair entry form needs to be turned in to your teacher and approved prior to starting the project. The science fair entry form is included in the Science Fair Application Packet.

The Science Fair Application Packet is available below:

Science Fair Application Packets are also available at the school office or Room 14.

Please contact by email if you have any questions or by phone (310) 533-4672 x3114.

On-Line Communicator

Hickory's On-Line Communicator -- Important Notice
Hickory communicates to parents weekly by emailing the On-Line Communicator. The On-Line Communicator contains the Principal's Newsletter, school activities, Fundraisers, and external activities.

If this is your first year at Hickory, or if you have not previously signed-up for Hickory's On-Line Communicator, it is important that you do so. This will help protect our environment by saving paper, trees, and landfill space. This will also help Hickory save cost on paper and toner which can be used for school programs, activities, and field trips.

  • How do I sign-up for the On-Line Communicator?
Go to www.hickoryelementary.com (Home tab) and click on Sign Up for the On-Line Communicator. Follow the instructions and type your name and email address. Next, click on the Sign Me Up button. You will receive an email notification that you have been added to Hickory's mailing list.
If you have spam filtering setup on your email, then please make sure you can receive email from hickoryweb@earthlink.net.

If you have any questions about how to sign-up for the On-Line Communicator, then email them to hickoryweb@earthlink.net

  • Do I need to sign-up if I was receiving the On-Line Communicator from last school year?

No. You do not need to sign-up again since your information is already in our system.

  • What if I do not have access to a computer or the internet?

If you do not have access to a computer or the internet, you will need to fill out a Request for Hard-Copy Communicator Delivery form in the school's office. This form must be filled out in order to receive a hard-copy Communicator delivered to your child's classroom.

Note: Important forms such as First Day School packet, school forms requiring signatures, school picture forms, handbooks or brochures will continue to be sent home with your child.

Thank you for supporting Hickory's GREEN effort.
