Students must fulfill certain criteria to qualify for these awards.
President’s Award for Educational Excellence (given in Grade 5)
This award was established to encourage students to achieve
high academic standards by recognizing and rewarding them for
educational excellence. Students must achieve a 3.5 grade
average in grades 4 and 5, and have achieved in the 85th percentile
or higher in math and reading on their STAR tests.
President’s Award for Educational Improvement (given in Grade 5)
The purpose of this award is to recognize students who show
outstanding educational growth, improvement, commitment, or
intellectual development in their academic subjects, but do not
meet the criteria for the President’s Award for Educational
Excellence. It is meant to encourage and reward students who
work hard and give their best effort in school, in many cases in
the face of special obstacles to learning.
Periodically, a different class is featured and rewarded for being well
behaved and cooperative. The Featured Class of the Week is
announced at the weekly Flag assemblies.
The featured Class of the Week is rewarded with the following:
- Early entrance to the cafeteria and a special designated
eating area for each lunch.
- Food certificates from sponsoring merchants
- Special seating at Flag Assemby
Any student, who is observed doing something
“nice” for another person, may be randomly
rewarded by the adult who saw the
behavior. S/he is given a “Caught Being Good” slip. The slip is then
put in a box in the Office. The student is then eligible for a “Lunch
with the Principal” drawing.
There are also High 5 Hound slips. With five slips, students can also enter the drawing.
This program was developed to acknowledge
and award children throughout the week for
good behavior and helpfulness to others on the
playground. At the weekly morning flag
assemblies, the principal will randomly select 4
of the “Caught Being Good” students who will
be his guests at Lunch With The Principal on
Thursdays. They go to Islands Restaurant and Baskin-Robbins.
